Illinois Province was created by Royal Proclamation on June 14, 2044 after the Islamic Caliph of the Midwest signed his official abdication. Five days earlier, the caliph had been captured by a daring assult of UKA paratroops from both the land and air.
The population of Illinois Province in the spring of 2046 is ?. Approximately ? are urban, the remainder live in the countryside or small towns.
When the U.K.A. occupied the area in 2044, it continued the Islamic Caliphate's political organization based on pre-1985 county boundaries, though returning the names of the counties to their originals.
The provincial government maintains a number of police barracks for the Illinois Provincial Police as well as administrative offices in Cairo.
The province is currently under military occupation and martial law.
Civil administration is handled by crown-appointed governor general responsible to the general commanding the Illinois Military District. Currently the office is held by James K. Browne. He is assisted by a mixture of military officers and officials and civilian administrators, both local and brought in by the military government.
Most actual government services is in the hands of local county officials. The governor general has control of the Illinois Provincial police, comprised of one company of horse mounted police of 88 men and four companies of foot police of 141 men each. Most of these police are locals, though the company officers are U.K.A army and R.C.M.P officers seconded to the JPP.
