Office: King
King Patrick was born and raised in Kenai, in what had been the U.S. State of Alaska. His parents, Josh & Maureen Dolphin, ran a salmon-smoking operation that supplied the north Pacific maritime trade with provisions. In 2006, Josh volunteered to join Kenai's contingent working on the Alaska League warship Phoenix then being constructed in Whittier. Patrick, along with his brother Alecander and his parents were among the people aboard the Phoenix during the fateful cruise to Maui in 2007. They remained on Maui until 2008, when Josh moved his family to Portland.
In 2010, at the age of fourteen, Patrick entered the Royal Navy Academy at Lahaina. He graduated near the top of his class in 2014. Despite the desire of his father that he become a surface warship officer, Patrick elected to join the newly created Fleet Air Arm. He was the top of the first Royal Navy flight class. He joined No. 4 Fleet Air Arm Squadron, the Royal navy's first fighter squadron, as an aviator late in 2014.
In 2017, Patrick entered combat for the first time, during the war with Santa Rosa and Fort Ord. During that summer, he shot down nine enemy aircraft, becoming the Fleet Air Arm's first ace, and the highest scoring FAA ace, a distinction he has held since that time.
Patrick, and his brother Alexander joined a diplomatic mission to the Mormon Republic of Deseret in 2018. In a small town of Declo in Deseret-owned Idaho, Patrick met, fell in love with, and married Margaret Thompson, the daughter of a local Mormon merchant, without consulting the king or his mother. Despite his misgivings about the match, Prime Minister Josh Dolphin tolerated his new daughter-in-law, but their relationship was always strained.
The next year, Patrick was serving as a scout plane pilot operating aboard H.M.S. Zama when his was shot down by Colombian fighters over the jungle. He spent a week evading Colombian patrols before being rescued.
In the brutal war against Deseret that erupted in 2026, Patrick flew missions in support of the Royal Army advance into Mormon territory. During tangles with the small Deseret air force, Patrick shot down three more aircraft. The war, and the way King Josh decided to end it, by firing nerve gas shells at the massive Mormon Great Redoubt, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands or Mormon civilians and soldiers, including Margaret's two brothers, and numerous more distant relatives, embittered her even more against her father-in-law. In 2030, she attempted to assassinate the king at an intimate family dinner party. While the incident was covered up, she was closely watched for the rest of her life. The next year, she was killed, along with her youngest child Alexander, in a car bomb assassination in Portland. The killers were never caught.
Devastated by his loss, Patrick through himself totally into his military career. Appointed the commander of the carrier air group on the first UKA carrier H.M.S. Reedsport, he was hotly engaged in the Carribean War against the Romans in 2032. Careless of his own life, he racked up an impressive score of nineteen Roman aircraft destroyed during that summer, bringing his total score up to thirty-one.
In 2033 he married the widow of Admiral Duncan Keaton I, Maria de Cherruca, daughter of the dictator of Peru. In retrospect this move turned out to be a near fatal mistake.
King Josh was killed in battle against the Japanese in 2035. Patrick was crowned king 1 July 2035 in a solemn ceremony in Portland's Catholic Cathedral.
On March 11, 2036, Queen Maria, with the help of her lover, Brigadier General William Riddle, seized Patrick and imprisioned him in the Palace in Portland, in a coup attempt. The coup failed, however, when the commander of the Naval Technical Services, Vice Admiral Squared, commandeered of a regiment of railroad artillery, and with two perfectly placed 14" shells, flattened the wing of the Palace that the rebellious queen was residing. Both Queen Maria and Riddle were killed and the revolt collapsed. Patrick, unharmed, took control and purged the Guards command structure.
Eight months after the death of Queen Maria, Patrick and Margaret McKerral, daughter of then Prime Minister Valeria McKerral, and grand daughter of Marshal Cromett, whom he knew since childhood, began dating. They married in 2037. Since then, she has been his political right hand and their marriage has been very successful.
Patrick spent the years from 2037 to 2042 in a continuous series of wars with the Roman Empire while trying to reorganize and improve the stability of the UKA at home. He had more luck with the Romans than with domestic policy.
In 2041 he was shot down while leading a bomber escort mission over northern Italy. The Roman government captured him and threatened to execute him as a war criminal. Queen Margaret threatened the Romans with a nuclear attack if they mistreated the king in any way. The Romans ignored her threat, so Margaret ordered a nuclear bomb dropped on a key railroad junction west of Turin, followed by the warning that the next one would fall on Rome. The Roman Emperor and his key officials fled to Varna on the Black Sea, but promised to treat Patrick properly as a prisoner of war, and he was returned relatively unharmed when an armistice was signed.
The queen made Patrick promise to fly no more combat missions. In 2042, he commanded a company of tank destroyers when the fighting was renewed. He distinguished himself at the battle of Turin that year, not far from where he was shot down.
Patrick was next captured by the Romans in the summer of 2045, when the Roman emperor invited Patrick to a summit conference in Rome to hammer out a lasting peace. A faction of fanatically anti-UKA Roman officials, headed by the pope, imprisoned Patrick. The Roman Marshal Orsini, aided by the planning staff of the UKA's Army Group A headed by Major Barbara Hagen, RM, freed Patrick. The old Caesar was overthrown. Patrick then negotiated the desired peace with the Romans.
