Temperatures are set to heat up again after a mild Bank Holiday weekend
The sunshine and warmer weather is set to return to Greater Manchester this week after temperatures subsided over the Bank Holiday weekend. The UK had the hottest start to May on record, with temperatures peaking at 29.3C in Kew Gardens in west London.
We also saw the sunniest April in the UK since records began in 1910, the Met Office revealed, with figures showing 47 per cent more sunshine hours in April than the long-term meteorological average.
But after a constant warm, sunny spell, temperatures have since plummeted across the country, falling sub 20C with cloudy grey skies.
On Sunday in Greater Manchester, the skies were mainly cloudy with sunny intervals and highs of just 13C, although it felt more like 10C.
Today (Monday, May 5) it is slightly warmer across the region with highs of 15C and some brighter, sunny spells.
But the good news is that from Tuesday, the sunshine will return for the week with highs of 18C through to Thursday.
The Met Office forecast says: “Another dry and settled day is on the cards on Tuesday.
“Winds will be light and with plenty of strong sunshine developing it will begin to feel quite warm again.”
The weather will then get increasingly warmer from Friday, with highs of 21C in some parts of the region.
“The remainder of the week will see high pressure dominating. It will stay dry with sunshine at times,” the weather service says.
“Though a breeze develops again, temperatures will be on the warm side.”
This weekend is also looking to be bright and cheerful, with peaks of 23C in some areas of Greater Manchester on Saturday and Sunday.
Sharing its forecast for the UK this coming weekend, the Met Office said: “Dry across the vast majority of the UK with clear or sunny spells but also some patchy cloud.
“Cloud will likely thicken across the far north and northwest during the weekend with some outbreaks of rain for a time.
“Temperatures are likely to be slightly above normal for the time of year, although there is a chance of some cold nights.”
