PPC’s Peter Bruce commences first campaign for Regina-Wascana seat

With hopes to “broaden the dialogue” in Parliament, Peter Bruce has launched his first campaign for a public office as the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) candidate for Regina–Wascana.

Bruce originally joined the party because its stance on reducing the size of government resonates with him. In his view, the public has grown accustomed to “government becoming more intrusive into people’s lives and into the economy,” said Bruce, a PPC member for six years.

“We want to get the federal government out of the areas that our constitution says belong to the provinces. And we can see this problem today with the oil and gas sector being strangulated by Ottawa in the name of a green agenda.”

Another of the biggest issues he sees in this election is the rising cost of housing, which has become unreasonable for some residents. He believes the PPC’s proposed moratorium on immigration would help resolve those inflationary costs.

Federal equalization payments also need to be addressed, Bruce added, noting that provinces like Saskatchewan should receive their rightful share.

“It’s not being applied as a fair formula,” he said.

Bruce is originally from Toronto but moved to Regina in 1981 to work for Sasktel as a technician. He later completed a bachelor of arts in history from the University of Regina while attending classes in the evenings.

After 16 years, he switched over to SaskTel’s communications department and spent the next 21 years there before retiring in 2018.

Also running in Regina–Wascana is incumbent Michael Kram (Conservative Party of Canada), along with Jeffrey Walters (Liberal Party), Kaitlyn Stadnyk (NDP) and Kimberly Epp (Green Party).

In the 2021 election, Kram captured 50 per cent of the southeast riding’s vote, followed by the Liberals (27 per cent), NDP (18 per cent) and PPC (3.5 per cent).
